I am thinking about leveling this lock of mine up to 60. Any advice on a leveling build? best talents? anything?

I know that the Ghost of the Flying Dutchman in the Spongebob Squarepants cartoons steals people's souls and puts them into his soul bag -- which is an oversized, worn out gym sock.

I would go with the talent template he uses :-)

(P.S. I know very little about warlocks, but hey, it never stops me from making dumb comments)

Talk to mere and mal -- both gave me great advice.

basically there's 2 approaches:
1) blow em up fast, rest up
2) kill more slowly but never stop

i'm sorta down the middle

my one suggestion? improve corruption to an insta-cast asap -- man it makes things easier

Sabre (70 warrior)
Sceptre (70 warlock)
Thornkiss (70 priest)
Chibi (62 rogue)
and a slew of others, 9 - 53

Any advice on using a succubus pet? Aylie (a rogue) and I duo together all the time. So I'm thinking more damage for fast kills? Also, I'm going down the affliction line, but I wonder if destruction would be better considering I'm always paired with a rogue?

Warlock advice? Sorry can't help you there, I know very little about them. Though I do remember this one guy... Malakye... now there's a warlock... I remember this one time he was soloing Orgrimarr at level 7. This of course was back in the day before there were HK's but by my own tally he would have been well on his way to rank 14 in just that day alone.

If I remember correctly his build is somewhat of a bastardized version of the SM/Ruin flavor (23/5/23). I think he felt it was wise to put the first five points into affliction for instant corruption and then move over to the destruction tree down to ruin. Then back to the affliction tree down to siphon life. Then the last five points are up to you... 5 more in affliction and you've got shadow mastery for 10% more damage... or 5 in demonology and you've got 15% extra health. He went with the 15% extra health as he muttered something about pulling aggro and what not.

As for pets... put away the Succubus until you feel like dueling outside of IF or you are running around in BG. Otherwise in the early years break out your big blue. As long as you keep up with his training he'll hold aggro well enough. Your rogue friend should be able to vanish/disengage or whatever it is those stabby types do to lose aggro. The killing fast theory may seem like a good idea but honestly it's not the warlock way. At the lower levels you just don't have the gear to quickly dish out the damage and if you do have the gear you don't have the stats to take the hits.

Also.. don't be afraid to cast fear on a mob. That will be your biggest ally. If you fear a mob and they get too close to another mob... cast curse of recklessnes on them and they'll come back. It's a great trick to give you some breathing room.

And finally make sure you get the right gear... it drives me nuts to see lvl 60 locks running around with INT and SPI gear on. STA and +dmg for the win!

But again... I don't really know much so I'm kinda just summarizing what I've heard.

"Major Strasse has been shot; round up the usual suspects."

Hey, thanks for the advice. +STA gear sound right on. I usually don't run out of mana anyhow, plus I can always life tap which is after all HP conversion, so STA sounds like the way.

The talent spec you suggested sounds like a relly good one. I just need to wait for +DAM gear, at lvl 25 I can't seem to find any. I'll have to check the AH more often.

Late response I know

Warlocks! There are so many different talent builds that  it is fairly hard to come up with a bad build. I hear warlocks are lucky in that aspect. Some classes only have 2 or 3 vaible builds (MAGES).

As Malakye said (by the way I am exalted in Orgrimarr now. They found I was too powerful a foe, so they decided to make peace.) Fear is a god send. That along with instant corruption and imp life tap are awesome.

I would start out in the affliction tree.  Instant corruption , then head to destruction 5/5 imp shadow bolt, 5/5 bane then 1/1 shado burn (OHHH how I love shadow burn.) I'd then go back to affliction and get imp life tap.  After that you can continue down to shadow mastery (10% increase to all shadow damage) or branch out into the demology tree. Soul link is appartenty the best pvp talent there is, admittedly, I want to try this very soon.

My talent build is 31/2/18  Yes, I have dark pact which some claim is a waste but I solo VERY well with it, and it helps the healers out some with MC. But it does not scale as well as it should.

I have really been thinking about doing some heaving pvp so I may change my talents to a 9/31/11 build. The only thing I dont like about this build is the loss of range (36 yards compaired to 30 yards).

On pets, At 60 the blueberry is most useful dead. either as a shield or a buff from demonic sacrifice. Lower levels he can hold aggro, Succubus is great around 30's Lash of pain is very nice. She will be your highest dps pet.

In my 35-40 run....

succubus was my pet. sent her in, corruption/agony, then leach life or conflaguration and shadowbolt. stuff would come after me, maybe hitting me twice, and then die at my feet.

loot, life tap if necc, then repeat until numb.

If pet was hurt bad at the start of the pull, i'd corrupt/shadowbolt to make it come after me. pet would be okay for the next fight, and i'd drain that health

i may not have killed as fast as possible, but i had almost no downtime at all.

Sceptre (70 warlock)
Thornkiss (70 priest)
Chibi (62 rogue)
