As you adventure and level up, I recommend you going the beast/marksman route. It will lower your downtime, and allow you to level up faster. When you hit 60 or so, spec out for marks or survival to boost your range capabilities.

Aimed shot is good, but early on it won't add much damage. Later when it adds +600 to a shot, it makes a huge difference. Adding +75 to a 3 second casted shot doesn't really help at lv 20. Things in beast like intimidation and ferocity help your pet hold aggro longer. That means less damage you take. Remember: your pet regenerates a lot faster than you do.

Here's what I would do the first 40 levels if I had to start over: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunters/talents.html?2500320052501051000000000000000000000000000000

The focus is keeping your pet alive (via mend pet if you have to), and lowering downtime through improved revive pet. Armor buffs, damage buffs, even a pet stun all serve to enhance your levelling experience. For your next points, I'd go with:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunters/talents.html?2500320052501051000000000000000000000000000000#none

Increases your range, mana longevity (you'll start to feel the mana hurt at about lv 30-40 or so), and gives you access to aimed shot, as well as adds some more damage. When you finish levelling, respec to the marks/survival or survival/marks to maximize your self-damage. Search around for those builds, but they are pretty cut and dry. You'll notice as you level into the 55+ range, that your pet becomes more marginal against PvE targets (but still serves nicely). In the raiding scene, pets aren't used very frequently, and not really as a source of either secondary tank, off-tank, or dps.

Corrected below:
For talents levelling to 40-60.

Final Talent Builds at 60 for raid DPS:
5/31/15 Marksmanship Build
or
0/21/30 Survival Build

I've done both, and I think marks outdamages survival because of the trueshot aura, 15% more damage to multishot, and 5% overall damage to ranged attacks. Many people say you get SLIGHTLY higher damage in survival when you get to t2 gear, but only if you can leech someone else's trueshot aura. I heavily believe this is because of the 3% hit talent. Get yourself some +hit% gear, and you'll be smoking in the core. Besides, let those rogues/dps warriors have Trueshot Aura too. Share the dps love.

If you're heavily into PvP, I recommend the survival build, with some slight changes. Here's what I think:
0/21/30 Survival PvP Build
The goal here is to use your various procs (imp concuss, imp wing clip, counterattack) to keep your enemies at a distance. If they get close, you can always scatter shot as well. The improved trap mastery is to increase the duration of freezing trap to again gain distance. But really, any of the above specs are fine for PvP for hunters. Remember to use flare, track hidden, and trap often.
