Erfanna hit 48 today, which got me to thinking she might (someday) reach 60. I need some feedback on healing builds. This is what I have comeup with just by closing my eyes and clicking. Any feedback would be greatly appriecated!

Improved Power Word: Shield used to lower the cooldown on re-shielding, which was important. With the 1.10 class review, this talent adds a few additional points to the damage the shield can take. It is not worth it to me to invest points in this as a raid healing priest. You could argue maybe for it if you PvP'd more or went for a "Holy Mage" type strong smite build. The points are better used elsewhere IMO. I don't see many priests picking these talents anymore.
You other Discipline talent choices are excellent. A large number of raid healing priests go up Discipline to get he Divine Spirit buff (a Divine Spirit build). This buff is significant and adds a good +10 mana regen per tick out of the 5-sec rule. It's better to have this yourself IMO than to ever depend on other priests to buff you. Your path to get there is a good one. You could do it with a few less talent points if you really wanted to shave points for more Holy, but Mental Strength is a very good talent also.
Your Holy talents are also very good. You got the ones you need to be really efficient with the Heals and Greater Heals that are a big part of endgame mana conservation techniques using lower ranked heal spells and lots of +Healing gear. I've never really messed with Spell Warding. You might consider putting that 1 point in Holy Specialization for an additional +1% to crit on healing spells. That talent works really good if you are also picking Inspiration for the massive armor buff on crit heal effect.
Sprit of Redemption is a talent I go back and forth on thinking is useful. I had it for a long time, but lately I have not been taking it. I can't say it's a bad talent, and certainly I see a lot of priests with it, but I was not really sure I was using it that much. It triggers when you die and turns you into an angel for 10 seconds. You can cast as many heals as possible with no mana cost in those 10 seconds, then you are totally dead and incapacitated like normal. You really end up getting off 1 big heal on someone or maybe 2 or 3 flash heals, but of course you have to die to use it.

| And I would not recommend switching to a pure healing build until you actually hit 60, or really will never need to solo again for xp. You will heal just fine as a shadow priest in all the Tier 0 instances and below. |

| For raiding, Spiritual Healing (+10% to healing) mathematically ends up doing more healing than Mental Strength (+10% mana). Just FYI... |

Agreed. I think Mental Strength is good for leveling up. It can also be good when you hit level 60 and are running the Tier 0 instances (before you have some epic gear) -- short intense battles where you might want a bit larger mana pool.
Once you are a good way down the path of collecting +healing gear, you can easily drop Mental Strength to spend the points elsewhere. My mana pool is lower than it was in the past, but I have so much +healing that I can cast heals almost forever with downranked spells. I dropped some other talents to pick up even more +healing and casting reduction talents. |
