I didn't know where else to post this, so you all get to see it.

Anywho, I promised Jor I would post my build since she was interested in it.

Retribution: 39 points

Improved Blessing of Might - 5
Benediction - 5
Improved Judgement - 2
Deflection - 5
Vindication - 3
Conviction - 5
Pursuit of Justice - 2
Eye for an Eye - 2
Improved Retribution Aura - 2
Two-Handed Weapon Specialization - 3
Vengeance - 5

Holy: 12 points

Divine Strength - 5
Divine Intellect - 5
Consecrate - 1
Improved Lay on Hands - 1

A word of warning if you use this build, it eats up a lot of mana healing, so you need to find a lot of +int if you get "asked" to be healer for a party.

Honstly Jor, I would go a build like this and then, as Thur said, suppliment with +int when healing.

It's to hard to get a decent build by splitting between the two trees.

lol, besides I'll be switching to something like this in a week in prep for leveling in the outland.

Thurgard,

Your talent template seems like it is missing some essentials. It looks like a PvP-focused template because of talents like Vindication, Pursuit of Justice, Eye for and Eye and the fact that you went heavy into the Retribution tree.

Also, this does not reflect the talent and spell changes from TBC coming Tuesday.

PvP Problems:
1. You are missing Seal of Command or Improved Seal of Righteousness. Normally, with a Retadin build you are swing a big 2-hander and go with Seal of Command. No SoC = huge gimp to DPS.

You put 1 point into Improved Lay on of Hands. It seems like a leftover point that was just dumped somewhere. DEFINITELY put it into SoCmd!

2. For a PvP paladin, healing is still important. You have to be able to outlast your opponent. Most PvP paladin tactics involve taking at least 1 or 2 pauses in the action to heal yourself. Spiritual Focus is essential for that (can also jump to Concentration Aura temporarily to heal through incoming DPS). You’d be much better off putting 5 points there instead of Divine Strength.

3. Pursuit of Justice can be replaced by a boot enchantment saving you talent points to be used elsewhere. This talent does not stack with other speed enhancements. ALSO in TBC, paladins will get a new Aura that boosts riding speed by 20%. It again diminishes the usefulness of this talent. You and your group are going to be beating everyone else to objective points by a long shot.

(small side note: Eye for an Eye rules in PvP. I love it. Nothing sweeter than watching some shaman or mage’s spell crit bounce right back at them for 1,000+ points).

4. Seems a shame to go so deep into Retribution for PvP and not pick up Repentance. You’re only 2 points away.
PVE Problems:
Jureal mentioned using something like this to level up in TBC. I’m not sure what type of path Jormomma was headed.

1. Too many situational PvP talents. Lots of points could be spent elsewhere for better PVE leveling speed.

2. Illumination in the Holy tree is the quintessential point to hit if you are going to be doing PVE support healing. Unless you are never going to group up for instance runs (solo only), it’s a good idea to hit that mark in Holy.

I asked him to post just to see what he had. He went on a UBRS run with Pugster, and Partial,Way, Ballzy an a few others. Ive never seen a Pally up near the top of the dmg meters.

Yes, this build actually is very speced for PVP as well as very useful as a DPSer.  Even though it is not cookie cutter and lacks what is generally considered essentials for a pally build does not diminish the quality of his build.  I was on the UBRS run with Thur and Jor and I have to admit he solidly out damaged my hunter build.

As a note towards my build:

Yes, I do my fair share of PVP, but iI've been using this build for a while, long before I started PVP. My main concern with having a pally was that I didn't want to be the group healer. That just wasn't fun for me, but I still wanted to play my pally. So I decided for Retribution since I like seeing big numbers flash across the screen.

In regard to Pursuit Of Justice: I've had that for as long as I've been a ret pally. This isn't a new build for me and the last time I respecced was long before I had ever looked at the new talents.

I had repetance for a while with my pally, but I've never had any luck with it in PVP. By the time you get someone under it, you're usually in the middle of a pretty hectic fight or someone breaks it as soon as you put it up. This and the fact that you only have 6 seconds to try anything led me away from that angle.

As for Illumination: It's nice I'll give you that, but I'd rather be the person who steps outta the fight when the chips are down, to start healing. I played a full Holy Spec pally, but found that I didn't have fun playing. It's not my style to stand back and watch other people do the work.

So, while Thurgard does well in PVP, he wasn't built for that purpose. He was built to the specifications I found worked best for me.

That's totally fine. If it works for you and your play style, that's all that really mattters. I'm not just saying that to get along, I really do believe it. I work talent trees in unconventional ways too (especially on my priest).

I get really interested in talent templates. It's my major money vice in the game. I've spent waaaaaay to much money playing with different talent templates on my characters. So anyway, I like to kick around ideas and discuss them in talent theorycraft.

Funniest thing tonight. In a mostly Res AB run, Thurgard, Beer and I were guarding the Blacksmith. It got to the point where the Horde would see Thur charging at them, turn around and run for the hills. It was up there with the Ninja Pally moment in AV.
