My rogue is lvl 60 (haven't touched her since the expansion) and my current feelings about her build (30/21 so far) is that she doesn't do enough damage. I grew up with Sword Spec (way back when the Vanquisher Sword from RFD lasted a LONG time and the Thrash Blade was a great 1-hander to 60) but I always here that weirdo Trefal go on and on about his mutilate build and I wanted input about suggested builds for a rogue. I'm far more solo oriented...and I grew up with sword spec...so I've got sword skill upped to 300...and dagger is only around 250ish. Should I go with a dual dagger build? Or a dagger OH with a Sword MH? I like the extra SS damage from using a slow sword...but I suppose dagger burst damage could be just as effective. I know the sword drops better than the dagger ones for low 60s...Ramparts for the MH drop from the first boss...get to honored to get the 2.1 speed OH from Honor Hold. I've also noticed the Blinkstrike epic...which looks like a PHENOMENAL sword spec weapon...with sick burst damage. I've also been reading WoWhead and everyone I know of goes on and on about the unsightly DPS generated when the proc goes off between that and the Black Morass 1.4 speed sword drop...but I dunno what to do. All 3 talent trees seem very nice...well...scratch that, subtlety is NOT my style. Assassination or Combat? I was thinking of going for a 31/30 sword spec and seal fate build...but I dunno. Mutilate looks MIGHTY tempting...and so does the whole "your sinister strike attacks can't be dodged and do more damage" talent. Help...please. |

malth was combat a long time but he respecced to mutilate Assasination some time ago and he absolutely loves it from how he talks, he is having a lot of fun with his build though I think he's considering taking a couple points out of 5/5 duel wield special and putting them back in master of subtlety cause he keeps getting seen in instances trying to sap and he's killing the team =P

Ok you are playing mostly solo so the question comes into mind how do you want to play. A Mut build you will need to be behind the target to even use it so there is a lot more movement involved. You Combat build is pure DPS and kill it. Cheap Shot it and burn it down with a nice slow one hander. They are both very good builds. I personally would lean toward the Combat build due to a slight higher average solo DPS number due to increased white damage. Any Dagger build will rely somewhat on crits for a large amount of the damage. Since you have been combat for a long time it is basically more your cup of tea. For level I say stick with what you have been. Try different styles once you hit 70 if you like.
As far as OH weapon goes just get something with nice DPS and hits fast.
Sorry I can not give you a super detailed look like i could if I was still playing my Rogue on a regular basis but I hope this helps. Basically for leveling go with what you are accustomed to. Makes it go so much faster.
See I told you I would do this today lol.

You seem to lean towards the combat style more, since that's what you are used to and that's what you like. Nothing wrong with it, I dug combat when I did it, but I found myself liking daggers more than swords, and for a combat build that's a bit of a waste. Your Mutilate build there isn't bad, but by going for parry and riposte, you are missing out on huge damage potential. You'd get a lot more mileage putting points into Precision and Dual wield specialization. If you are only going to PVP with your rogue, put a full 20 into combat to get a full five in dual wield. The difference shows. You can also live without Dirty Tricks. Yes it's fun to sap from a ridiculous distance, as well as the drop in energy cost, but it is really not necessary. Since I PVP and raid with Malth, I had to sacrifice a few dual wield points for Master of Deception. Without it a lot of mobs were seeing me when I would sap, and it'd wipe the party.
I'm far from the end all be all knowledge of rogue talents. I don't like to go by other people's builds, and tweak my own constantly trying to find that perfect balance.

| Thank you all for your input...so would the 31/30 or the 19/42 perform better? |
