| What kinda gems for gear sockets would best benefit an Afflication spec warlock? I thought I've seen something about crit bonus type gems would be good for destro and stam bonus gems best for an afflication spec warlock but Im not sure if thats entirely true. Anyone have any ideas or info? |

hm Well I do a ton of PVP with my warlock so I focus on spell penetration with some stamina and spell damage in my pvp heavy gear

| Affliction=Spell damage and Stamina. Affliction spells can't crit, so those gems are useless. Stamina and Spell damage will never let you down, considering DoTs get the full amount of spell damage increase...and Stamina is the bread and butter of Lock builds. Mana per 5 second is okay...but I still go with Sta and Spell damage. Spell penetration can be useful...because its better than spell crit for helping you with those pesky yellow slots...but the purple shadow draenites are your bread and butter...4 sta and 4 spell damage=non-Destruct lock favorites. |

True that dots cannot crit(yet) but don't forget that shadow bolts from Nightfall will be cast or Incinerates and Immolates can crit too which useful to focus on using while dots tick through their timers before reapplication
try not to completely shy away from spell crit entirely but do look for more Base +Spell damage overall

I'm not a big fan of that talent because I have ENOUGH problems with aggro without adding Shadowbolt and Incinerate less burst damage keeps me alive longer. Granted, I am also talking partially from a Demonology lock PoV...where crits are VERY VERY BAD. It could be less dangerous in raiding and end-game instances...but I've pulled the critter off the tank more times than I can count...and that's just with 3 DoTs and wanding. Granted, drain life will more often than not cause insane amounts of threat, so I avoid it. *shrug* I do realize this is an affliction lock post, so I may be less of a valuable source than Mk, I just know I despise damage spikes, because they decrease my survivability...and they're wasted on DoTs and channeling spells. I haven't invested in the Nightfall talent...so I don't use the uber damage hate-gaining instant cast Shadowbolt. When Immolate crits...I hate it, I have to run around while my Felguard gains aggro back...I'd rather I never critted in PvE encounters. |
