Hi guys, I was looking at the builds for the guild priests and guidelines, but what im really interested in is a good healing mod. One thats quick and fast, hehe not sure if one even exists yet to do exactly what i want to do. I am currently running Horgaths healbot, wich works well for five and ten man runs but its not that great for the bigger raids that i have been in. Most times in those situations i find that im clicking on the ct raid assist icon for the individual and manually sending them a heal. Any suggestions would be very helpful, I'm always looking for ways to be a better player and group member.
Thanks for your suggestions

I currently use Click Heal. I've been using it for many months. I used to prefer a mod called WatchDog, but that one hasn't been updated in a long time.
Click Heal is a very powerful "click casting" mod with tons of options. The most important feature for healers is that you can program it to cast spells by putting the cursor over someone's frame and doing mouse click + key combinations.
As an example, here is my configuration for my priest:
Left Click = Heal Rank (3) Left Click + Shift = Renew Rank (2) Left Click + Ctrl = Renew (Highest Rank) Left Click + Alt = Flash Heal (Highest Rank)
Right Click = Power Word Shield (Highest Rank) Right Click + Shift = Cure Target [does Abolish Disease or Dispell Magic depending on need] Right Click + Ctrl = Greater Heal (Highest Rank) Right Click + Alt = Target Player [in case I want to do anything else not already programmed]
Note: I have several lower rank spells programmed. It takes practice and some getting used to, but you can save a TON of mana by playing with this and getting lots of +healing gear. I took the talents to reduce Heal and Greater Heal casting times. I do not have Prayer of Healing programmed on click-casting because it only hits my group. If I need it, I hit the quick bar icon or keyboard key bound to it.
Another suggestion I would strongly recommend is setting CT_RaidAssist and CT_Mod (or whatever else you use) to show the player's health deficit as a number instead of percentage or just plain bar. It helps a LOT to see exactly how much health someone is missing when you are deciding what spell to cast. You should know how much on average each of your spells heal so you can match the right spell, spell casting speed and player health deficit for the situation.
CT_RaidAssist has two other great settings. One is to show the buffs on a person. There is a long list. I only check the priest buffs, renew and also the druids heal-over-time spells. That way I know if someone already has a HoT on them. The other setting is to "Show buffs until Debuffed" setting. This leaves the buffs on the player frames. When they are hit with something I can cure (magic or disease) then it changes to big debuff icons. I also prefer to manually cure people most of the time over using Decursive. That way I can pick the highest priority targets first depending on the situation.
I don't like mods that try to pick spells for me or interrupt me. I prefer to have total control over that decision. Click Heal has a setting that will cast a Flash Heal instead of Renew if you try to renew a target that already has renew on it. That works pretty good.
Lastly, I like using the Scrolling Combat Text mod. This isn't a must, but I have it set to display healing numbers over my head for all my spells except Renews. Sometimes this helps me see when something is going wrong with my heals -- like the target has taken a mortal strike or other debuff that is lowering my effectiveness. Then I know to pump out more if needed to compensate and keep them alive.

OK, here's a slightly more serious post.
Tref's covered a lot of good stuff, but from the perspective of a tank:
Know what your warrior's responsibility is.
If he's main/off tank, heal only your group unless your mana is at 75%+ or you're healing another tank (know who they are).
If he's assist tank, pretend he's a main for a good 15 minutes. see how much the other tanks rely on yours to actually tank. if it's a lot, see main/off tank. If it's only rarely, you only need to reserve 1/3 for your tank.
If he's DPS, heal the raid, keeping renew on him. Keep 25% of your mana though -- if "bad things" happen, your DPS tank will go OT to try and salvage the situation -- and you'll be spamming healing far faster than if you were on a MT/OT.
The rationale is simple. MT/OTs take a beating. if you aren't using your mana, regen it because you'll be using it again very very soon. ATs vary wildly. sometimes, the MT/OTs go the "i will tank ALL" route -- until there's overpull and the MA becomes another OT. Sometimes, MT/OTs go with the approach of "once the MA gets agro, they want it -- so they can keep it".
DPS tanks shouldn't have agro, so they take damage from AoE splash stuff and nothing else until there's overpull. When that happens, the not-armored-for-it warrior tries to survive (my tanking gear has over 7K fully-buffed health and over 7K armor. DPSing? both are ~5K. If I wasn't primarily a tank, i'd probably be in rogue-ish realms ~4/4.5) |

hhmm, What Tref and Sabre said pretty much cover it.
I don't use any healing mods, so I can't help you there ( not because I think mods are cheats, or whatever, but because I am afraid of Mod caused lag). The function keys, and the fact that I have which heals are which numbers memorized helps. I DO have to target someone, and with lag switching targets can be an issue. I may have to look into this click heal the great Master Tref speaks of. sounds useful. I'm afraid to add more mods though, as I don't want to add more lag.
Yes, using lower ranks of things like Greater heal and heal can save you a LOT of mana. I use gheal rank 2 atm, The key here is to get +healing gear. Once your +healing tops 200, you can move to heal rank 3. Well, just test the ranks yourself and see which work best for you with your gear.
Other than that, the only help I really use are the following in CTRA Resurrection Monitor. Use this! lol Emergency monitor. Set at 60%, I put warriors and healers on this list only for most boss fights. For Garr, I add Warlocks. You may want to set it up differently depending on what your job in the raid is.
I'm sure you'll figure it out as you go. Read up on other people ideas, test some for yourself. You'll do great, I can tell, because you care enough to ask :-) |
