Looking for help,
I have recently rolled a mage named Garrice and am looking for advise.
I am thinking about tailoring and herbalism for professions. Make my own clothes and sell all herbs i can collect.
When i get to start useing my talents which way should i go? I figure i'll be solo most of the time so i need to be able to do damage to stay alive.
Also should i use a staff over a one handed weapon and a off hand orb or something.
Any and all advice will be taken into consideration.
Thank you,
Garrok

For solo...any of the builds can work, Frost tends to be more...herding the enemy to where you want him to be, fire is absolute direct damage and arcane...*shrug* I know arcane mages that slaughter things, but I haven't been an arcane mage since WELL before the 41 talent tree was invented. 1-h and off-hand v. staff...just use whichever you can find that is nice. from 34-42 I'd say use a Hypnotic Dagger/Mage offhand quest reward, and then 42-58 use the ZF staff...but once ya hit 58...just use whatever lucky drops you can get. My lock uses a staff but has an offhand item stored should a nice spell 1-hander drop.

About profession selection...just go with whatever seems cool in your mind

When in doubt...hit something as hard as possible.

Shut up and Reboot.

I purely soloed up my mage, and it's hard to do from about lvl 11-28 - until you get the hang of screaming like the dress-wearing girl that you are.

As for a build, you definitely want to first concentrate on getting uninterrupted arcane missles. From there, I went right down the fire line and was a fire mage - I found that it increased crits, stunned enemies decently often, and I coulf do 3-5 pulls before having to rest.

It was then recommended that arcane was better, and I respeced in the early 50s - and I'm currently all arcane now. Why did I stay? I didn't want to pay to respec again, and I grew used to arcane spec. While I can only do 2-3 pulls without having rest and fights are a bit more risky -- I've changed my pattern to pulling 3-5 mobs in a pull and taking them all down at once.

As for items, it's all about the bonuses - I've gone between staves and dagger + offhand, as I could get better bonuses. Expect to go back and forth.

And I agree with Karosa on the professions - go with whatever you want. I'm a tailor/enchanter on mine.

I'm only in the mid 30s here, but I took enough frost to get down to ice block, and now I'm heading into the arcane tree. Those magic missiles pack a wallop, and frost gives you good mob control whilst running around screaming in fear.

Thank you all for your advise. I have given this alot of thought and decided given my main Warrior and the squishy factor i have rerolled her to a Pally. However i have stored away all this wonderful advise should i decide to make a Mage in the future.

I found for leveling, deep fire or frost is great. Frost is good for the whole living thing. Arcane is okay, however it is very mana ineffiecient compared to fire or frost. Arcane blast is still bugged (I think they are fixing it next patch) and currently seems to be guarenteed aggro. For my mage I leveled with frost and did PVP battlegrounds with fire.

Nothing more fun than being an elementalist and doing nova/blastwave/AE...so many numbers flashing on the screen...muwhahahaha.

For arena I have been elementalist and have realized it sucks. The top rated mages for arena are 17/0/44 frost. I will miss DB, BW, and blazing speed but i want to win more than my love of those tricks. Also, no matter what ppl say, Imp CS is a must for arena.

My 2 cents.

Come back to mage when you get bored with being retnoob (hehe).

To the tune from Fresh Prince of Bel Aire
From WoW Forums

Now this is a story all about how
My role got flipped, turned upside down.
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
Ill tell you how my class became broken beyond repair.

In East Lorderon Kingdom, born and raised
In Arathi Basin where I spent most of my days.
Killing out, maxing, and causing alarm
and pwning some warlocks right at the farm.

When a couple of locks, they were up to no good,
Started crying on the forums to the developers.
They got one little whine, and they got scared,
And said we're buffing up the warlock class, you better prepare.

I whistled for buff and when it came near
The dev's said no, and had mages in the rear.
If anything I could say that this sh-- was qu---r.
But I thought now forget it, rerolling Warlock!

I started leading meters and stirrin' some hate
And I yelled to the mage yo, noob QQ later!
Looked at my 1337 skill, I was finally there
To settle my throne as the class thats unfair.
