Wow... pretty indepth.

.. I honestly pick and choose talents to whatever I think would be most useful to how I play.. or who else would benefit from the whole "I'm in your group" experience. I don't really think that low of my trusty Devotion Aura... I use it all the time. From what I can tell, Cap'n WayWay really has no problem with the insane armor boost.. the only time I change auras is if I'm running around on ol' smokey or we're in a particular instance that requires resistances. Other than that, Devotion is pretty much my end all beat all..

Though I hadn't thought of using Consencration Aura in PVP... *scratches chin and grins evily*

I don't use devotion on my pally that much, right now she's 60 holy spec
I use concentration or retribution depending on the party makeup. Concentration especially if it's a caster heavy group or I am being smacked around from healing aggro.   (pug tanks suck so it's very common  >.<)
Otherwise I'll throw devotion on for lack of nothing else.   Great with druid tanks.

Cats can work out mathematically the exact place to sit that will cause most inconvenience.

Mkeyai 70 Tank Drood .. Muhja 70 Afflic Lock .. Angevina 70 Holy Priest .. Dhalei 70 BM/Srvl Hunter .. Temun 70 Holy Paladin .. Helba 70 Fire Mage .. Sevati 70 Prot Pally .. Goewyn 62+ Shadow Priest .. Ashu 42+ rogue .. Sesame 45+ warrior .. Korast 40+ shaman

I am follwing this guide and going ret till low 30s or maybe lvl 40 then I am going to try switching over to that aoe prot spec that I keep seeing on the forums. That is if I ever get that high. This is the third pali I have started and I don't think any of them have gone past lvl 25.

I am following a lvling guide word for word with this toon, so far I have made it to lvl 17 in 2 days. I am still not all that sure I like playing pali though. Following that guide I am using a 2h axe that is really slow. I have found that Devotion aura with blessing of wisdom seem to let me grind the best with no down time. The only thing I have really noticed that I don't really like is that the damage I do and the damage I take seems to be really random. I can fight mobs that are 4 lvls higher then me and hardly get hurt but then some times I am fighting something that is 4 lvls lower then me and it takes me down to 50% hp before I kill it. Maybe its like this with all the classes in the early lvls and I just can't remember...all my alts are in the 20s and its been a while since I started from scratch.

A lot of it depends on the mobs. Paladins (like warriors) seem really tough most of the time until you go up against certain mobs, especially ones with magic-like attacks.

You should definately give Protection a try to see how you like it. I agree that you have to wait until you can go pretty deep down the Protection tree though. Holy Shield is essential to the concept. I think the Pally forums talk a lot about going Prot/AOE grinding when you hit outlands. Well, maybe level 50+ when you can hit East and West Plaguelands for melee undead.

Protection really runs into trouble when you get caster mobs in the pulls or anything else that likes to stay at range. I believe it works better if you want to do pure mob grinding (as opposed to questing). It's just really different. I tried it on my (now retired) paladin for a while when I was in my 40's and again in the 50's. That was a year or more ago though so a lot has changed since then.
