Anyone have any frost mage talent build suggestions? Started up a lowbie popsicle mage and I want pointers on which talents are useful and which aren't, my 34 UD frostie on Bronzebeard (formerly Stormscale based) mage got me interested in creating a new one. Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

| I don't know anything about mages ... except how to kill them with maces or daggers. :-) |

| isn't killing the mages mostly just sticking the pointy end/smacking the heavy end into them repeatedly while they wait helplessly due to an inability to leave stunlock (Blink outta a cheapshot...into a Kidney Shot)? |

nah, Mages seem to have too many tricks to get out of stuns. I changed my tactics. They blink all over the place and try to kite me, so I hit them with every DOT possible. That way damage is ticking on them even when they pop away and try to get some range on me.
1. Open from stealth with Garrote (3 second silence + DOT) 2. Use the 3 seconds to Shiv a couple deadly poisons for combo points. 3. Get in a 4 or 5 point Rupture right as they get out of silence. 4. Mage does some frosty explosion thingy to root me and blinks away (while x3 DOTS are bleeding them to death) 5. Mage winds up with some massive slow-cast spell thinking they have a chance to crush me. 6. I hit Improved Sprint (which breaks their CC on me) and end up right in their face as they cast. 7. They might get the spell off. That's fine. I have the hit points to eat it. Yum! Snow Cones! They are at half health now from my poison, garrote and rupture ticks. 8. I give them a good swift kick in the jimmies to shut them up. Improved Kick silences for 2 seconds. 9. Pound on them for some combo points while eating some instants damage spells from them. I often have Cloak of Shadows available, so I use that for 90% immunity. 10. Kidney Shot stun them or refresh Rupture. 11. They Blink away usually 1 more time about now as their cooldow pops. 12. I Deadly Throw with remaining combo points to shut them down while I close range. That is often when I get that satisfying Deadly Throw in that kills them. Sometimes it crits for like 500 to 600 points. 13. If they are not dead, I trinket out of any CC and end up back in their face. 14. End of Mage
Mages are challenging though. I have to be on my toes and really paying attention. It can also be difficult if too many of my cooldowns were blown right before starting to dance with the Mage. If the mage has a friend helping them that can interrupt me, like hunter freezing traps or rogue/warrior stuns it throws me off. Anything that slows me from closing range fast enough makes it difficult. Timing for me is everything!
If the mage Iceblocks at some point in the fight, I use the opportunity to walk away and restealth or bandage. I pay careful attention to the direction they are facing, because it seems most mages like to blink away right as Iceblock fades. I try to position myself right about where they will blink to -- stealthed or not.
Hmmmm. hehe. I don't mean to hijack the thread. But I think Rogues are the bane of most casters including mages. I guess this is a window into the mind of a rogue coming after you in PvP :-) |
