Before you go in, you need: 1. A rogue with a pretty good lockpick skill OR a truesilver skeleton key 2. frost oil 3. A thorium widget (to fix a broken trap; engineers can make these) 4. 2 rune threads (you can buy these) 5. 8 rugged leather (a skinner may be able to loot this off the dogs that are inside) 6. 4 runecloth bolts (not sure how much cloth this is -- a tailor might be able to get enough inside and make them) 7. A main tank and some sort of off-tank 8. Two healers (pally's fine as a 2nd healer)
Before you go in, you want: 1. AOE damage -- there are some groups of non-elite insects that swarm in nasty ways 2. Decent CC: (indoors vs. humanoid) groups of 2 ogres and one or two pets are common when you get in a ways 3. Someone who can stealth -- there's a key you must grab. It's a whole lot easier to get it if you don't have to worry about the wandering named (a NE hunter worked fine)
Things you must not do: 1. Don't kill any named -- they're the ones who provide tribute 2. Let the wandering eye spawn its mobs -- they hit nasty-hard.
Other hints: 1. The drunken named ogre will ignore you if you don't get too close -- he's smashed. 2. You can't unlock the 1st locked locked door you find inside the dungeon; that's the one you need the key for. (its up the ramp right behind you -- watch out for mobs!) 3. the warlock pets have a pretty nasty aoe spell. kill them before their masters (someone needs to be on the master though -- getting banished stinks) 4. off-tank the observer. he's going to agro, but you don't want to kill him. |

Hi Not an expert on Dire maul so found this info interesting as I would like to spend some time in there. The only time I have been we did the tribute run and was very fortunate we had an awesome Warrior to tank for us as she knew the zone and probably saved many deaths. The one thing I thought was cool tho was when we got to the King we had a hunter single pull him using FD. It worked like a charm we avoided the observer and killed the King and shortly thereafter I was crowned the new King and was loved by all. ( except the bugs). Well the Ogre's loved me anyways..lol after that talked to the guards and got some real nice buffs that lasted 2 hours. |

AHA!! We have been wondering where this second frigging key drops. Is it off any of the ogres outside the instance? |

Century key?
I've learned it's actually a quest. You get the quest from a guy outside and W of DM, then you do the west wing of DM (following this imp), kill the imp when he goes all bit, and there's your key.
I have one now -- if i'm actually on, I can open the door for you |

I think the list above that Sabre posted is the right quantities for
doing a tribute if you do not have a tailor with you who has the Ogre
Suit pattern already. If there is someone who has the suit
pattern, then I think it takes slightly less materials.
That key is not called "Century Key" I don't think. It is called
the "Crescent Key." It allows you to open some of the doors to
the Dire Maul instances. You have to complete a quest in DM East.

To get the key, you have to clear a path first (recommended) and then
chase this Imp through the instance. At the end, you force him to
give you the key.
Dire Maul in my opinion is a MUCH better place to gear up for Molten
Core than any of the "set armor" instances. I know for certain
that it has some seriously high-quality gear for casters. Many of
the mobs that drop the important loot can be reached quickly, so you
can take a good group and farm them 2 or 3 times in the space of an
hour or two.
There are 3 or 4 bosses in DW West that drop fantastic caster gear that
you can hit, and you only have do a couple trash mob pulls to get to
them (literally like 3 or 4 trash pulls).
DM North has a mob named Guard Mol'dar that you can get to with 1 trash mob pull. His loot table has lots of good stuff.
I've also run DM East a couple of times with people to hit
bosses. It seems like you have to clear more trash mobs, but
there are many bosses that can be reached easily in DM East.

No, I have the Crescent key. There's the Cresent Key, then the courtyard key that you get out of the basket, but isn't there one more locked door that requires a rogue to pick or someone to blast open? I'm wondering if there's a key to *that* door.
Unless I've got it all wrong and there's only 2 locked doors.

| It's been a long time since I did a Tribute run, but the only keys I can find mentioned in walkthroughs online are the Crescent Key and the Gordok Courtyard Key. The Courtyard Key is the one you get in the center of that courtyard where the guard roams. This key opens the door right there in that same area. |

| There is still another locked door after the couryard key is used (1-time use key). You need a 300 skill Lockpick or Large seaforium charge I believe to get through. Next time I visit, I'll check for any named key that could open the door. Odds are such a key if it exists would only drop from one of the named you are trying to avoid. |

Truesilver keys work just fine -- i always had a couple, so no prob
(and the door you refer to is the reason for required item #1 ) |
