4 is an unlucky number in asian cultures. They do not have 4th floors in buildings sometimes, just like they sometimes did not make 13th floors on buildings in the west. 13 is lucky to them :-)
13 as lucky or unlucky has an interesting history in various cultures and times.
By some medieval christian mystics, It was sometimes associated with the 12 Apostles + Christ (12+1=13). It was drawn as a circle of 12 dots (twin offset hexagons) with a single dot (or leader) in the center.
The history of numbers and geometry is one of my favorite topics :-) |
