"It's unimaginable how big this is," says Chen Yu, 27, who employs 20
full-time gamers here in Fuzhou. "They say that in some of these
popular games, 40 or 50 percent of the players are actually Chinese
farmers."

It's interesting reading. Apparently one farm pays people about
$75 a month for 12 hours per day farming shifts. After reading
the article, I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. On one
hand, it sure seems like you are encouraging "sweathshop" businesses by
purchasing gold. On the other hand, some of the business owners
pointed out that they people they are hiring would be doing some other
type of back-breaking manual labor. They might also have no job
at all.
In any case, I thought it was an interesting glimpse into the world of
sweatshop gold farming. It is also nice that this article is by a
big established news agency like the New York Times.
